2015 World Day Against Child Labour
On June 12, 2015 was World Day Against Child Labour, which addresses the unfortunate reality that millions of children face within the developing world. Our JPC, Natasha Heeroo, currently interning in Kenya, had the opportunity to attend a workshop with the International Labour Organization addressing the issue of child labour worldwide. The following is Natasha's accounts of her experience:
My work highlight for June was the World Against Child Labour (June 12th). UNICEF co-hosted a key stakeholders workshop with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Nairobi on June 8th ahead of the national rally in Meru county on the Friday.
While preparing the presentation for the event I did quite a bit of research into child labour and it is a deplorable situation for many developing countries and arguably developed countries as well. I don't know what the solution is but I do know all NGOs, not for profits, private sector, and Governments need to come together to tackle this problem.
"No to Child Labour, Yes to Quality Education," is right!
