A period should not stand between a girl and her right to quality education. Yet for millions around the world, the stigma surrounding menstruation combined with poor menstrual health education, lack of access to sanitary products and safe and gender sensitive sanitation, can be a major barrier. On Menstrual Hygiene Day, Sophie Wang explores how period poverty impacts girls’ lives and what we can do about it. Menstrual hygiene should not be a luxury she writes; it should be a human right. It’s time for action!
