UNCDF Bangkok

UNCDF is an amazing organization that works with the world's 49 least developed countries to promote inclusive and sustainable growth. The Bangkok office is currently hosting their 3rd JPC, Gregory Wesolowski, and the last JPC, Daniel Yang, has stayed on as a consultant since last February.

Daniel & Gregory report to Fakri to support the LoCAL project. LoCAL invests in local level climate resilience by providing Performance-Based Climate Resilience Grants to local governments, rather than national, to ensure the grants are channeled quickly and directly to where they are most needed. This ensures local ownership, accountability and more sustainable results.  An example of a microfinance grant would be raising a bridge to account for higher flood waters due to climate change- ensuring the bridge doesn't get washed out.

The current, piloted  LoCAL projects have been located in Asian countries, but these models have be so successful that there are plans to expand to Africa to Benin, Mali and Ghana. Fakri is hoping that a JPC will be able to support this expansion in 2014... so watch our website for a posting with UNCDF in one or more of these countries!
